I often brag on Maggie Shayne and The Littlest Cowboy just gives me more to talk about. Shayne flawlessly combines all of my favorite attributes in a book. She gives us a lot of amazing characters with great personalities and physical descriptions. Then there is the deep suspense, a ton of action, and a great romance. When Shayne tells you a story, you’re there. You can feel the tension and smell the gunpowder.The book and the entire series are “romantic suspense” so my warnings for them seem obvious. There is graphic violence, a lot, in many forms. Also, it contains graphic language and some sex. The sex isn't extremely graphic, nor is there a lot of it but it is there. Last, this is not a light fun happy read. It's tense and emotion packed. I know I had a tear or two come to eye.
The Littlest Cowboy is the first novel in The Texas Brands Series. The Series revolves around the Brand family, brothers Garrett, Wes, Elliot, Adam, and Ben and their sister Jessi and a bunch of cousins. I really loved this book, and want to get the rest of the series! Oh, and this was a FREE download for Kindle on Amazon.
**UPDATE 3/17/15** I have now read this ENTIRE series and I love all of the book as much as I did the first one. Each book brings you a new story with new love, tension, and suspense but still involves the other characters as well. Each book can be read stand alone, but you will want to read them all!

From the beginning of this series I've wonder who would be MAN enough to be with Selene's special gifts and we got the answer...read to find out. I'm not spoiling it but let's say if you didn't believe in what Selene can do then be amazed at what she accomplished. There are sad moments but luckily the HEA is at the end. So saddle on for the final Brand daughter discovers what Fate has in store. Enjoy!
I wasn't into this book as much as the others in the series. Pretty far fetched and I could have done without the magical overtones (I get it, the book is about Selene). It was still enjoyable, and I'm glad that I have read the whole series.
I love Maggie Shayne's Oklahoma Brands series. I loved the first one and I've read the whole series and I'm reading book four in the Texas Brands series. Maggie Shayne is a wonderful storyteller who creates great characters. I have enjoyed every book of hers I've read and was not disappointed in any of them. Good stories, every one!
Book 5 of the Oklahoma Brands series continues with the focus on Selene Brand and her intended, Cory Falconer. Selene knows Cory is her soul mate. Cory knows only that he has amnesia and that someone is trying to kill him. Suspense, murder, family conflict and romance interweave in Maggie Shayne's creative cast of Brand characters and the people who love them. Plain out fun to read.
This book went in to too much details about witchcraft for my liking. I have loved all of the stories up to this one. But it was more like a propaganda story meant to make the reader like and agree with Wiccan. The author has tried to convince the reader that her belief system doesn't interfere with Christianity,but it does. The Bible is clear on witchcraft. And clear about gods and goddesses. So while I did enjoy all of the Brand family stories I won't be continuing with this author. She weaves a good story until she gets religious/political in the story. I wish she would have kept Selene as a mystery instead of all of the spells and prayers that were in this story. Gave me bad vibes reading it.
Book 5 in the Oklahoma Brand series is daughter Selene. Always a bit different from her sisters in other books. I don't mind stories about Witchcraft/Wiccan - most is misunderstood. Actually the author sums up the practices well as a post note. Obviously the author didn't think to bring more of what Selene does out a little bit more in her other books. Sure her sisters know that Selene just "knows things" and leave it at that. We are hit with Selene being a witch pretty hard right at the beginning of this book. What bothered me was the feeling of true love and soul mate Selene has for Cory immediately and she can't wait to be intimate with him. Any guy would back pedal knowing a girl 5 minutes who says you are my soul mate. All in all a fine book in this series. Just wasn't MY favorite.
